Odd, mine works fine. (all 3 of them, and 1 motion plus, and 2 nunchucks)

I guess one of three things.

1. You had a broken Wii remote (highly unlikely)

2. It is in fact your hand that is gimped.

3. You are just saying that because you played Wii Sports for like 5 minutes and didn't get used to it (the most likely)... it took me a week or two to get used to using a control stick to steer instead of the d-pad for Formula 1 WGP2 (N64) My first 3D game.
