So no, it's not that bad, i've had it for years and $85 for a new 1 year warranty included with the repair is really quite reasonable.

The fact that the WII has no backup option for the internal storage is really dumb though.

Your loss was sooo tragic. It couldn't ever compare to someone in your family dying.
