Financially it's a better idea than putting it on PS3 (in Japan at least, it'll probably sell even worse everywhere else).
Potentially it could be a disaster with the flood of PSP games and ports all announced for this year. Everyone jumping on the bandwagon hasn't struck gold and there is way more competition than what's on the PS3.
From the fan perspective...well...all I can say is that there are a few meltdowns on gaf.
