But last gen sold how many, 170-190 million consoles?
Are you implying this gen will sell six billion consoles? Get real. This gen is half over or on the verge of hitting it's half.
In your own words, there's two to three years to go. In order for the ps3 to close the gap it needs to outsell the 360 by as much as 250k-375k / month. And that's just to get on even ground. Every week that goes by where the 360 outsells the ps3 increases that figure. To give you an idea of what it means, the Wii (you know, the generation winner) is outselling the 360 by around 400k monthly.
Right now for the ps3 to close the gap and tie with the 360 it needs to be as succesful as the Wii NOW. If the situation doesn't change for the following 3-4 months, the ps3 would need to become even more succesful than the Wii just to tie it with the 360.

Of course consoles will never sell to everyone on earth. That's too rediculous to even think about. My point is there are a lot more possible buyers out there. And do you actually think that this gen consoles will only reach what last gen's sold. That's even more rediculous. Gaming is growing. Partly because of all the casual gamers starting to join in the fray. Though, I'm not just going to give credit to the Wii for this, but it does deserve most. But not only that, the population has grown since last gen as well, which means even more prospective buyers. Not implying they all will get a video game system, but still.
And everyone keeps bringing these numbers up like everything will stay the same. The numbers you give, the 360 would have to continue to sell the same amount as it is now, until the end of the consoles lifetime. I don't see that happening. It will rise and it will fall, as they always do. Now given that PS3 still has a few price drops to go, I think things can change. You know the way things do. Just like everyone thought Wii was going to be last because of the 2 previous gens. However, it's on top. Things change. All the time.
Now to all those who are like, "Well, MS will just drop their price, too." I don't think so. They already have it at $200, and it's already stripped down to nothing. What else will they take out to drop it down to $100? The price of a PS2. The price the PS2 just dropped after its 9th year out. Sorry but I think 360 is down with price cuts till at least a year or 2.

But according to, NPD I think it was, the average selling price of the 360 is 260$ which means the Pro makes the bulk of purchases. And the Pro is still 299$.
Anyways, it's obvious you are a hopeless case of OMFGZ SSSONY COMEBACK!!!! and nothing will change your mind. Heck, I'm sure once this gen is over if you are still lurking the forums you'll be one of the guys spamming massive damage control tirades once it's even more abundantly clear Sony won't get outta the hole they dug themselves.
So, have fun with the sales numbers because it's gonna be a few years of eternal hope and damage control for you.

Sorry, but there is no way I'd be here spinning anything if Sony lost this Gen. Though, in all honesty, I see no one truly losing. By the time it's all over, they all will have made their money. And no matter what system people have, their respective owners are happy. Even IF 360 comes in third, MS will have made money for their company, and that's what really counts.
But, what I do find sad is that the people on this board are extremely immature. If anyone has an opposing argument or opinion from your own, you feel the need to just slam them personally. Call them stupid or trolls. Now if a troll by your definition is someone who defends their point of view, then surprise, surprise. You're a troll, too. In fact if your just going to insult their intelligence, or steep so low to insult their families, you're even more of a troll.
And no nothing will change my mind, because it is always possible. Now, notice I said possible, not that it will in fact happen. You see, in business their is always possibility. Hell, every business is founded on it. You start small and then take a chance. It's either possible you make it, or you don't. But for all of you who think business is set in stone as of now, it's just completely arrogant and naive.
And why attack my typing with, "OMFGZ SSONY COMEBACK!!!!"? Sorry, but that's not how I type. If that's how you read it, you must have your fanboy goggles on.
