Yeeeeah, but see, I don't take that into account when I'm coming up with scenarios that I feel would improve the game. For me it is simple: Nintendo characters and locales means more fun.
Hell, Mario's about the only gaming icon equivalent to Mickey Mouse. Seeing them side-by-side would probably make my head explode.
