Well... I will admit that I had money burning a hole in my pocket around the time HoTD came out (I think it was actually on my Birthday) and don't get me wrong it is a good game. Also, it isn't like House of the Dead is a franchise that was just made a rail shooter because the publisher is making excuses about how they can't make a decent Wii title. It is just obvious now that we have The Conduit that Capcom, Activision, EA, Ubisoft, and Konami are full of crap. If they put a decent budget and one of their tier 1 teams behind something original on Wii then they could blow what HVS has done out of the water.
The Wii still doesn't have any Triple AAA Racers (besides Mario Kart), TPS, FPS, RTS etc. and it is just stupid since it has a large install base. I know Wii users are more skewed toward the expanded casual market but I am willing to bet that more than 2% of Wii owners own PS360s and buy hardcore titles on those systems.
In any case, I really don't mind buying a game retail and taking a risk on something a couple of times a year if it looks like the developer is at least trying something different as I can throw them on Ebay if I don't like them and make most of my money back. So far, on Wii I've only done that on MoH:H2 and Umbrella Chronicles though.
Also, I take risks on quite a bit of Atlus published titles because more often than not they are great games...
Oh and I agree. I was pretty disappointed with MadWorld as well. I thought it would be similar to the awesomeness that is No More Heroes only in black and whilte but it never really grabbed me. Maybe it was the fact that NMH has amazing bosses or I like the humor better, I dunno...
