I think you can actually. It has classic controller support (as I tried it out) but I'm not sure whether you can use it against an IR player or not. (I never tried that)
I have it in my collection but I need to get it back from my brother-in-law as he has had it for over a month. Has anyone tried playing with motion against a classic controller player?
Honestly though, if you have an option and are going to play this with a classic controller you might as well get the HD version because the controls are what makes the Wii version special (best Footie game ever IMO).
