Well... On the first version, you're a "child" who "free" NiGHTS, then the "real game" begins. NiGHTS need to fly through the stage searching for blue balls (sorry, I don't remember the name of this "item"), that uses to destroy the "sub-boss". Repeat it 4 times and you're challenged with the Big-Boss of the stage.
The "core" of the game is this, but the real attraction is the feeling of the game, the beautyfulness, the imersion, the unique gameplay, the unique stages, the "puzzles", the atmosphere, the musics, the score engine, etc, etc, etc... THAT's the reason why is so IMPOSSIBLE to explain and talk about this game. The most important is not WHAT YOU DO, but WHAT YOU FEEL playing this. The experience is something just so wonderful, and so awesome that you should try it to get what's about this game.
Seriously, NiGHTS is a game of ALMOST INFINITE replay value. If you don't know what is this, you're letting one of the greatest gems of videogames passing by, and SHOULD try it at least in an emulator (the Saturn emus are great today!). So you try (remember, that's a 10+ year game that is developed to be played with an analog controller, not a keyboard).
I'm almost sure that everyone will be in love with this game. At least everybody should.
Okami? This is MEH near NiGHTS. NiGHTS is the real videogame art. Good times, SEGA, good times...
