6) It will have free Windows XP virtualization in some of the skus.

You'll need Pro or above and a virtualization-capable processor in order to use this (which I apparently have), apparently it's a hassle to set up and run (a minor issue), and its performance and compatibility are suspect - I'd have to actually test this before deciding on anything. Then again, IF it works as intended, you might be onto something here.

I've been using the beta and RC. The XP virtual machine wasn't a problem to set up. Basically just run an exe or two and then taking time, but wasn't difficult. I haven't done extensive tests on performace or compatibility on it, but most of the games I've played have run on 7 anyhow or required Dos Box, which XP required too. Do you know of any specific programs or games that are supposed to have trouble? If I have it, I can look into it.

From what I've gathered, many processor types have their virtualization capabilities disabled by default, so among other things you'd have to dick around with the BIOS in order to get it working. It seems you had yours already enabled - and as I said, the hassle wouldn't be a big problem anyway, so meh.

And you don't really have to do any tests if you don't want to, but I'm mainly concerned about games like these:

The Fallout Series (1, 2, Tactics)

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 - 5

Infinity Engine games (Planescape: Torment, the Baldur's Gate series)

Newer Blizzard games (StarCraft, WarCraft 3)

Beyond Good and Evil, Psychonauts, AvP etc.

Basically late 90's - mid 00's games - anything older can be run via DosBox, and newer ones probably work anyway.

And here are a few tougher ones:

Emperor: Battle for Dune

Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate

These games are already broken by XP, so you'd have to run a second virtual machine inside the XP one in order to get them to work. It's a big enough pain in XP, so I don't expect that you want to bother - if you even have them, that is. :p
