You know, you might consider shedding some light on these new features if you want anyone to give a damn about them.

And from what I've read, W7 breaks backwards compatilibity with older programs even worse than Vista does, and as a (retro) gamer this is a deal breaker for me. So I'm sticking with the older stuff for the time being.

I don't think any OS currently available runs slower than Vista. Then again, a performance improvement is always nice - even though I've gotten Vista to run OK after gutting about 50% of its pointless services.

3) I am blown away by the new media functionality. You can now access your media library over an internet connection......and it works REALLY well. I've tried it out in several different situations, and it is seamless. You just open up your media player and there's your stuff. Even HD video streams damn near flawlessly just as if you were sitting in your own network. (This could probably be added to Vista too, but I don't know/remember if it's reliant on the new Homegroup feature or not.)

I guess it's nice, but I've never had the need to access my media library over the internet, since I lug my laptop around quite a bit.

4) Homegroups make it much easier for Joe Schmoe to set up a network.

Haven't really had problems with networks before, but OK.

Don't have a 360, so 5) doesn't apply to me.

6) It will have free Windows XP virtualization in some of the skus.

You'll need Pro or above and a virtualization-capable processor in order to use this (which I apparently have), apparently it's a hassle to set up and run (a minor issue), and its performance and compatibility are suspect - I'd have to actually test this before deciding on anything. Then again, IF it works as intended, you might be onto something here.

7) Even in its release candidate status, it NEVER crashes.

Correction: It hasn't crashed for now.

I  recently switched from DX9 to DX10, and noticed only marginal performance increase. Then again,I only tested three old games that were designed for XP only - I'd probably need a side-by-side comparison between DX9, 10 and 11 to better examine their benefits.

Nope. Sorry, but while it does seem to be a decent step up from Vista in the performance department, I don't see anything that would say "BUY THIS RIGHT F'N NOW". At the very least I'll have to test it before buying to see whether it's worth it or not - and I know a few tech geeks who'll buy it anyway, so I'll get my chance. :p
