I got that ad yesterday on my laptop. My options were to click on the ad or shut down my internet. I shut down the net, and when I tried to run firefox again, I kept getting an "unable to connect to the internet" prompt. I wound up having to sign in under a different profile on my laptop.
I got it again today (my other profile still won't go online) and had no side effects.
