Don't use the micro if you're using the GBA player, especially if you have a link cable, since it uses a different one.
And in practical terms, the gamecube controller doesn't need a link cable, nor batteries (rechargeable or otherwise).
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
