After being on the market for (roughly) a decade HDTV adoption "Skyrocketed" to 25% in 2008 primarily because of how few SDTVs remained on the market, and how high demand large screen flat pannel displays are. As time goes on and more people buy (very) large TVs and are exposed to the difference between SDTV and HDTV it is likely that HD will become a necessary feature for a videogame console ... This is not going to happen in the next 24 months.

We have already passed the 100 Million console sold mark this generation, and I think it is fairly safe to assume that most of the people who haven't bought into this generation are also the kind of people who don't see much value in HDTV.
