Star Ocean 4 started great for me, and it even had some great plot twists. Although, they kinda ruined it a hour later. (I thought going back to Earth was very cool, but the whole Bachtein family thing completely ruined it for me.)

I just had more fun with IU. It had much better music and story than SO imo.
