Buy a console based on games you WANT to play, that are available NOW. A console should NOT be a long term investment, that you have to plan for, thinking that something may could out in a year or two that you want to play.
There were some great games for the DC (esp. Soul Calibre), and I almost ended up with one.
None of the current gen consoles will "fail" - Im pretty certain the DC is the last console that will ever happen to (unless a new player enters the hardware market).
