If Wii was full of FPS like the HD consoles and PC there would be no way HVS could get away with just a 'generic' FPS approach but since Wii is (vertually) devoid of anything but WW2 FPS anything they did would be unique.
They are not a top tier developer and decided, smartly, to stick to the tried and true. If The Conduit proves a great success they can invest in better writers and artists for the sequel.
