I think Mr. Newell is in a position at the moment that makes him rather unassailable to those who wish to discredit him: unlike other developers who criticize any particular system -- be it the Wii, PS3, or 360 -- Gabe Newell happens to be:

1) The head of one of the most well respected game developing firms in the world

2) Developing a game for the PS3 as we speak

Wh

wich makes the usual methods for dismissal -- he hates the PS3 because he's developing for 360/Wii, or he's a terrible devleoper so who cares -- unusable. Instead, the reasonable people in this thread are falling back on another argument: he's just one guy, and even if he's a very important guy, other important guys feel differently.

That is a reasonable argument.

As a last note, for those who have chosen to comment on how Gabe Newell is a stupid noob or how fat he is: I think it's quite likely that The Orange Box (360 Metacritic score here: http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/halflife2theorangebox?q=orange%20box ) Will end up being the best reviewed game for the PS3 in its lifespan thus far by the end of Christmas. In other words, this stupid noob has most likely produced the best game your system has had to offer its entire first 1.5 years of existance.

In fact ,he hasnt ,as the PS3 version was outsourced to some other guys that dont have the same name as Gabe Newell but seems way bette than him to cope with new technologies .

Newell feared multiprocessor ,he feared DirectX 10 ,he fears PS3 .....he just fears to have to do some research and to be separated from his usual and familiar tech and architechture .

Be very careful. Your slagging ff a developer who has more stature than most. I would trust him more than any MS or Sony PR. Even more than 1st and 2nd party developers. Because he has always done multiformat.
