Sigh......this is why I say the general consumer is stupid.......

This attitude here is why you even made this thread. You assume that your opinions and values are the norm, and anyone not sharing those are stupid and have bad taste . This gives rise to the belief that people will soon see the greatness that you see, if they are only educated a little bit. So you wait for this to happen. But you have misjudged what other people value, and the logical chain of events you are waiting for never occurs.
I would say that what is stupid is failing to recognise that the values you see in a product might not be the values other people see, or are even looking for. That's why Nintendo is the market leader this generation by the way. It's also why you cannot understand how this could be. Because they could understand the concept that values differ between people, while you could not.
You look at the Xbox and you see that the PS3 is superior in every way that counts. Except price, of course, so that must be the reason it's not selling as well! So you believe that dropping the price of the PS3 will result in the xbox retiring. But you forget that what other people value might not be what you value. Your basic assumptions are flawed, and any conclusions you draw from them will be equally flawed (though by chance you might come to the right conclusions once in a while).
My post here is based on a couple of assumptions that I have gathered from what you have posted so far in this thread, as well as my general sense of your character from previous encounters with your posts. It's not only provoked by you, but by the staggering amount of people that share this belief that people are stupid and have bad taste. It is a lash out at anyone and everyone that subscribes to this, in my mind rather ridiculous, point of view.

Very good post... except we have proof..... before M$ made a series of put cuts in others and bigger ones in every other region the higher priced ps3 was selling more for almost a full year world wide...
so your logic is flawed also.

I have proof too, the price elasticity for the first price cut was only -1.08 and that was when elasticity was likely to be higher due to the PS3 being outside of the acceptable price range. From here on out elasticity with drop so therefore we could expect PS3 sales to only rise less than 25% after a 25% price cut ($299) in the long term. Thats barely enough for the system to sell more than the Xbox 360 and definately not enough to outsell them in America this holiday season. What this means is that Sony will get less hardware revenue overall every time they drop the price from here on out.
