Maybe because they are good games?

They arent boring and repetitive like FPS games?

Some have great stories and memorable characters?

Take your pick. Why, what would you like us to talk about?

Oh yeah, there is no repetition in RPGs for 60+ hours. They always have the same story, some kid who wants to be an adventurer and ends up saving the world. I enjoy WRPGs, but I feel like I've played everything the JRPG genre has to offer already.

And you don't think WRPG's repeat just as much with being a space marine/ knight out to save the kingdom/galactic whatever?

Alpha Protocolis definitely a new step, but it's not like WRPG's don't have their own settings they usually end up in.

Don't forget the post nuclear war setting. Either way its a lot more fresh than what we've been getting from JRPGs since the Genesis and SNES.

Edit: Kamal also brings a point to me. JRPGs have tons and tons of reading. WRPG are more focused on free roaming and game play.
