I expect mostly Wii stand-alone *looks at Japan sales* |
That's why I said "by the end of the generation." It's obviously not happening right now. With the ps3s lack of games and high price, people will wait a while before picking one up. But given how much even a small title like Hot Shots Golf 5 did for a very expensive piece of hardware, I can see price drops and games like MGS4 and FFXIII doing a hell of a lot more.
Like I said, in the end, I expect most Japanese gamers to have one of each. All of people that bought aWii for Wii Fit or some other crap probably won't have a ps3, but most people that bought one for the games will probably end up with both, because they are so different. The Wii will be bought for the gameplay and Nintendo 1st party games, and the ps3 for the graphics, functionality, and Sony 1st party games.
There was such a drastic difference between ps2 and GC sales last gen because they were very similar platforms in terms of functionality. Both were very similar in controller design and graphics, and some of the more popular Japanese games ended up on both systems, like RE4. However, one thing that pushed the ps2 passed the GC was it's dominance of the JRPG market. The ps3 still seems to have that dominance over the Wii, aside from a few titles like Monster Hunter 3. This should help the ps3 pick up the slack over time.
