"Technically I think the PS3 is powerful enough to render a game like Halo 3 in 1080p at 60 FPS together with additional effects, with twice the content, higher quality 7.1 audio and localization on a single disc" Cant 360/PS3 do such game in several years? This is just 1-2 years in the generation games will look much better then that. |
Ummmm ... no
Jumping from 720p/1080i to 1080p is twice as many pixels and thus requires twice the processing power in your shader hardware on your GPU; increasing the effects (in most cases) demands increased processing power per pixel in your shader hardware on your GPU.
Adding effects (in particular texture based effects) can increase the development time for every piece of content in the game (thus increasing the budget) and increasing the ammount of content increases the budget of the game.
For developers to be taking so little advantage of the system for this to be possible they would have to be second or third year computer science students with no industry experience. I don't believe that Epic or Bungie is being run by second or third year computer science students with no industry experience.
