why does nintendo need my copy of brawl to clean my system

i called nintendo on the phone they told me i need to send my wii and smash bros brawl in for them to fix it ......... but why do they need brawl if it is just the system.........i cant seem to make sence of that ........does anyone have a explantion for this ............
