Remember that this was the actual first time that the game was showen live which means that they really wanted to make a impact. Maybe they thought that showing the puzzle side of it just wouldnt have had as much impact as showing the more action side of the game. Pluse showing action instead of the puzzle and and mind playing part of the game insures they dont leak any sort of big story spoilers.
Reason for so much ammo
could be that when people usualy demo games on stage they use a code that gives them extra health, ammo etc so that they can play the game and not worry about getting killed. It insures that they can play through the part of teh game that they wanted to show in the time that is given them lol would be so funny if they kept getting killed at the same spot and there time ran out.
I agree with the looks of this game it simply is amazing. Before e3 there were planty of people(most I would say not knowing exactly what they were on about) saying how the 360 was maxed out graphicly then Alan Wake comes along(with some other games to) and gave them all a big slap in the face.
I have been looking forward to this game for a long time and cant wait to delv into its strange world.

This is a perfect analysis of what Remedy chose to show - and not show, of Alan Wake, and why the E3 footage only represents a slightly limited and specific side of the game.
