I want to address the 1up review in the OP. I find several things wrong with it, which I will list here:

  1. I think the OP has unfairly classified the score from 1up as (sub-par). A (B-) score, or in his estimation a 6.7, is actually considered (Good) from that website, and is noted directly above the review itself. At the very least, classifying the 1up review as (sup-par) is an unpopular opinion. It is at least (par), and in reality (good) if you ask the legend(akin to a map key) on said website, which is the only quantifiable source, or if you just ask the person who reviewed it, who classified it as good.
  2. 1up clearly indicated why they changed the review system from numerical reviews to letter grades, and it was exactly because of these sorts of things. People would only look at the number, and not read the review. So, we are left with the rather confusing job of translating the letter grades to numerical values for aggregate review sites. All AR sites have their own method of interpreting letter grades. I believed that in this case, the OP used the metacritic numerical estimation instead of the letter grade itself, with a result of causing the game to appear as if it had received a worse review than it actually did. Whether intended or not, that was the end result, and I feel it was misleading to people without an intimate knowledge of the relationship between 1up, the letter grading system, and the metacritic translation.
  3. Obviously, the most accurate and least offensive way of interpreting letter grades is simply to present the letter grade, a link to the review, and let the user decide, or even translate the letter grade using the individual websites review key for the reader. I think that in the future, we would do well to remember this.

The OP claims that he is still on the fence about this game. Let me recommend watching a video review. Then, not only does he not have to read a review, but he doesn’t have to rely on a basic and vague estimated numerical scores to decide his gaming purchases. It’s the best of both worlds. I recommend the G4TV review, where the game was given a 4/5.

That’s all, I’m out. I have a perfect right to my opinion, even if it’s not the one you want to hear. One thing I’ve noticed is, I haven’t seen any users who has actually beaten the game, bash it. In fact, they are its most adamant defenders. I should receive it today, so look forward to a full review.

Also, 8.5 from gamespot totally removes any doubt about this games quality, and proves that the American IGN review was a total fluke.
