There are loads of cases in which Germany is way more liberal than America. Think of abortion, same-sex unions, etc.

Additionally most laws have to be in line with EU standards anyways so that law wouldn't last long.

Abortion is legal in the US.  Are you talking about late term abortion?  I don't think you can decide to abort your baby a few weeks before it is due in the US.

Gay marriage is a state issue in the US.  For example, New Hampshire, the state to the west of it, the state to the east of it, and two of the state just south of it all have gay marriage.

You are right about some laws, though.  For example, isn't prostituion legal in Germany?  It's only legal in 2 US states.

I was actually talking about public acception. "Pro Life" and "Pro Choice" movements are about equally strong (the last poll I read showed a slight lead of the "pro-choice" side) while in Germany abortion is widely accepted. Same with gay marriage (although we don't have a real "marriage" either but I think there are more anti-gay-marriage people in the US).
