If you compare PS3 vs 360 sales in Western markets, the story is different:

It's near the 360 in Europe (but lower), and not anywhere near where the 360 was in America.

 

You could use the same logic to say that the only reason the 360 is ahead of the PS3 is because of North America.  Fact of the matter is, that doesn't matter.  Worldwide sales is what matters.
