Well I have only played XII and X-2, both of which I thought were great, but XII being the better one, a simply brilliant game, I played it for 60 hours in 4 weeks, the only reason I stopped was because the PS3 came out a month after it in the UK
My only problem was after you got the double XP and double LP items, it felt slightly too easy, but still great fun. As for the gambits system, I never had any gambits on Vaan, but I introduced special gambits for the last bosses, so that I always had the status enhancers like courage, haste etc, which made for a slightly too easy final boss, but only because I had got my tactics spot on! Ashe sitting back, Basch (or whatever he was called) as my tank, and Vaan mixing the two depending on how things were going, it was a great game
