I personally think the easiest way to go about playing FFXII is to think of it like an MMO. Using Lure you can have a tank, whom you can buff up with protect and other such things, you can set gambits so that one of your other characters is focused most on healing, and then you have the damage dealer.
And I grinded by cheating basically, there's a rare mob that spawn little mini guys every 10 seconds or so, if you set gambits so that your characters heal themselves and only kill the mini guys while leaving the rare mob alive to spawn more you can go to sleep and let your characters level themselves.
