I'd say you underestimate female gamers. A lot of them like games just like "Core" gamers do. My girlfriend does and she's new at it. She's interested in just about anything... well anything that is well made and isn't just throwing in gore as it's only appeal (Manhunt) or sex. (DOA) It's the same with my friend who is a girl gamer.
The only kind of game you need to appeal to girls are GOOD games.
