this is because the general consumer are idiots. I tried selling a copy to almost every PS3 or 360 customer at Walmart. All just said "that looks stupid" and normally just got Gears 2 or some other shooter... it really annoys the hell out of me that the consumer wont try something different.

Remember the law of working at retail? "The customer is always right?" Unless a customer asks you for help, you shouldn't tell them what they should and shouldn't buy. And even if they do ask for help, their decision is something that's right for them. I'd much rather play Gears 2 than Bionic Commando, and I wouldn't want someone at a store getting mad because I made that choice.

its called suggestive selling, it is a form of salesmenship. You can make suggestions on products a customer should consider purchasing.

While yes the customer is always right that does not mean in retail's mind the consumer is inteligent. One of the major rules in retail is to assume the general consumer is mindless.

I'm sorry, it's very condescending. The general consumer is not mindless. They may know far more about something else than you do, even if their knowledge in videogames is limited. Considering that Gears 2 got far better reviews than Bionic Commando (we're talking 20%+), than I don't see the problem buying a superior game. If someone wanted to buy Haze, you would have been justified. Otherwise, don't speak out of bias.
