There have been countless analogies on countless threads on thousands of websites trying to explain this, but I like mine best so I’m going to state it. If you consider games for HD consoles as a Mountain Bike race games for the Wii would be like a BMX Race ... You can recreate either experience for each group of people without forcing them to change their "Bikes" but the best experiences come from playing to the strength of each "Bike" and trying to recreate those experiences for either will likely result in a "Watered Down" experience.
Basically, Dead Rising for the XBox 360 was a game that had elements which played to the strenghts of both the HD consoles and the Wii; and the unfortunate problem with the Wii Port was that the developer did not see the elements which were good for the Wii. The HD consoles have the ability to have a lot of enemies interacting in a very large area all at the same time, and this was used in the XBox 360 version to make an enjoyable game. The concept that "Everything is a weapon" combined with the free-form controls of the Wii could have provided an excellent experience on the Wii even though the Wii doesn't have the same processing capabilities as the HD consoles, and having fewer zombies walking around would not be a problem if they required greater use of objects and the environment in creative ways to deal with them.
