I'd buy it because I'm a Final Fantasy fan and graphics whore so that'd be right up my ally.
Is it necessary? No
The graphics were not to bad, I mean it was the PS2 and no PS2 game should get remade unless its the next generation.
PS1 on the other hand had bad graphics so there are many games that deserve it more like FFVII, FFVIII, FFIX etc
