Or it could be to flesh out the online components of the game. I still think it's to add more characters because of third party request. This could be unlockable characters or clones. Remember, Nintendo is being more open to 3rd parties like never before and desires a more fruitful relationship with them. |
Smash Bros. is garnering a huge following. Having your character in the game puts it on the map. Look at Kid Icarus and Pit. Since being announced for Brawl, how many do you think of snagged that game off the Virtual Console?
Being a Smash character is great exposure that lots of franchises could benefit from.
