I don't think they want to 'kill' GT as a racing franchise, they want to kill GT as 'THE' or 'THE ONLY' racing franchise which is big. In the end what they want to do is grow Forza 3 as a series so that its close to the same size as GT and that car manufacturers, the public and the media will give them both equal respect. They are fighting to have equal respect, they are not fighting to somehow best GT5.
I can see Microsoft really sticking their hand in the advertising jar and pulling a big wad of money out for Forza 3. It makes perfect sense, give Forza 3 a chance to really show itself as a huge franchise and if they do it right they will have two big franchises rather than one.
