Downloading is not theft for two reasons:
1- It has no negative economic impact if the downloader was not intending to buy the stuff.
2- You're not depriving anyone of their property. You're not adding costs to anyone's bill by downloading (in the cola can case, you are).
You can say it's immoral or whatever, but it's not theft.
