WTF.
1st. Ruin the games image? Who cares about past crap, sonic would be an excellent addition as a playable character in a game.
2nd. Then why was mariokart DS so good? and remember ROB had a motorcycle-type thing, and that's one of the best carts!
3rd. Live with it.
4th. Screenshots are bullsh*t. You can't determine a game by a picture.
Last- even if it is delayed, anywhere in December and January is a great time to release a game, and even if it doesnt do excellent in the first week (highly unlikely), it should have good legs.

Wii- 23 million- Brawl will hopefully make it higher.
360-20 million- GTA IV's release date will be a big factor
PS3- 12 million- Same as 360, MGS4 also big factor
