yeah, the HD format war is still too much up for grabs. Thats the main reason i havent invested in either.

Yes, PS3 does effect the number of blu ray discs sold, but there was a study a little bit ago dealing with a bunch of questions having to do with video games and consoles and what not, asking people who owned the systems and know about their capabilities, questions like how many people knew xbox360 and ps3 had HD capabilities, could play dvds, videos, stuff like . one of them involved people who owned ps3s know they could play blu ray movies, and only a 3rd of knew they could.
In fact, the big thing about the studies is not even a majority of the people owning the systems (Wii, X360, PS3) knew of the capabilities of the system besides being able to play games. Hence the problems with advertising the systems(microsoft and sony) as "more then gaming systems"

people on VG forums know the capabilities, so this actually may seem highly unreliable that most people dont know what their systems can do. But the sad reality is, most people who own xbox and ps arent hardcore gamers that pay attention to shit like we do. If that were the case, you think the number of 360 sales would be up there if EVERYONE knew about RROD issues? no.

Essentially the problem is this, while companies like microsoft and sony try to make their systems into Home Entertainment Systems rather then gaming systems, people buy systems to play games. everything else is just extras. I mean, how many people here actually on a regular basis play movies on their systems, dvd or blue ray? i can probably count below twenty times, this generation and last include, that i used it as a dvd player, even when i had no other dvd player, for some reason i went out and bought one.

Back to topic, while the ps3 is pushing blu ray discs, theres still a part of me saying that sony shouldnt rely on it to win this format war.
