DSi =/= Wii HD...
1st:
DS & DSi = Handheld
Wii & Wii-HD = Consoles
2nd:
Changes in DSi doesn't separate the gaming demographic between it and the original. Developers still sell "DS games", and people that own a DSi can play them "fully". We can't talk about something as "backwards compability" unless we stretch it a little.
Changes in "Wii-HD" would separate the gaming demographic between it and the original. Developers would sell "wii games" or "Wii-HD games", players can't exchange between both easily: they can't play "mismatched" software/hardware "fully". "Backwards compability" is an issue.
With this said, Wii>Wii-HD isn't the same as DS>DSi, but is much closer to PS>PS2>PS3.
"How hard would it be to randomize facial features and skin tones? That's what we want, to feel like we're killing hundreds of different people. Not a bunch of clones or twins. We want to know, deep down, that there are hundreds of grieving mothers out there, lamenting the terror of our dreaded blade."
