Fantastic news for the Wii. Horrible news for the PS3. A little solace for the 360. Anything the PS3 does not get is good for them. They can always play towards the high definition, and unique alternative angle. I think hanging the PS3 salvation on the market in Japan was a bad move by some boosters.

The reality is Sony is caught firmly between two opposing problems now. Nintendo is using its momentum, lower production costs, and lower console price. Which in turn seems that it will deliver once exclusive games to their console. Which almost by default have to become exclusive.

Microsoft on the other hand is more then happy to buy content for their console. Further more it looks like they will pay a premium for that content if it is exclusive. Even more damning Microsoft has the better western support. Meaning they will have the better variety.

Hard to imagine a way that Sony can work themselves out of this predicament. They have Microsoft buying exclusives on one end. Nintendos success snatching up exclusives on the other end. Forcing Sony to spend more money to secure titles. Frankly they will have to spend more money then Microsoft gasp.

What is worst of all however is that this might establish a trend in the market in Japan. The more developers that jump off the good ship PS3. The harder it will be for those that remain on board to stay. The less verdant the field will appear. I think Sony is closer to that precipice then any time before.

I think many Sony boosters on these forums have pegged their greatest hopes on the market in Japan. Specifically Sony retaining those key developers in Japan, and their flagship games. This title was specifically on many lists as to why buy the PS3 console. They have been the shining grace of the console as it were, but is that light starting to dim I wonder.

Generally another bad day for the PS3 advocates.
