Sony explained the position for PSP Go in this interview with Gamasutra

But Koller says Sony sees it as a "two-model strategy," wherein the PSP Go is the "premium-end" product to the PSP-3000's lower-end.

"From a target perspective the 3000 targets, and has been targeting, a lower income teen consumer... much more urban," says Koller. The demographics of the product are "very ethnic" ; 40 percent of PSP owners are Hispanic, for example.

I see a problem here.  The problem is their lower priced unit has greater functionality then the more expensive unit.  You do get a smaller system, that is lighter, and it comes with internal memory, but LESS functionality.  You don't have the UMD, for one thing.  And anyone care to explain why there isn't a second analog stick on the Go?  You CAN code games so they either use them or they don't.  It is to cop out stating "isolating" your original owners.  You do the same here.
