I came to the same conclusion as you. They are expanding on what midna was in TP (a transformable helper). I am gonna say that each dungeon has a new power is unlocked for her or whatever... I also expect there to be some tradition items too. So there will still be switching. She will just be the weapon, imo.

Wii- 72 million 3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases
360- 37 million Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak
PS3- 29 million Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut
