I don't think the process is the main reason the prices dropped down.

In my view DVD prices dropped for 3 reasons.

-Some retailers started to use low priced blockbuster DVD as a way to attract customers to their shops ( WallMart for example, Best Buy too).

Lets not forget that a new movie retails at 15$ at Best Buy or WallMart and that is between 50 and 60% of the MSRP so basically retailers forfeits most of their profits on those in order to generate foot traffic in their shops...

-Many retailers expected the transition to HD to go faster and started to try to liquidate their old stocks.

-Netflix and others digital downloads have become serious competitors for old non Blockbusters dvd movies and the only way to compete was to lower severely the price of old movies ( every week you see DVD of movies 2-3 years old for 5$ ).



PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !
