This sentence makes no sense. First Yoshi's Island on SNES was a success. Mario Sunshine is the only Mario on Gamecube and it sold more than 6 million copies on a 22 million install base.

Well, you'll notice that "relative" allows him to compare Yoshi's Island's numbers to those of SMW and find them wanting. 

But then Super Mario Bros. 3 isn't a breakthrough success anymore since it sold much less than the original SMB.
