I'm wondering if the gamestop shipments were huge because of pre-orders and that every other store just under stocked it because they thought it would be a bad investment...

Yeah I do remember seeing a lot of commercials. To the untrained eye, it looks like GTA with an electric superhero. It may actually exceed expectations. Plus, these shortages are introducing even more hype.
