To take a different approach here, It's probably likely that something like violent television or videogames played a part here. I mean we're talking about a two year old. I have a three year old and she's never been exposed to a knife in her entire life. If I sat her down with it, I don't think she'd ever reach a 5 month old baby to hurt it. She'd probably hurt herself out of straight ignorance of not knowing what a knife does. So I do believe this two year old was in the presense of someone or something(like videogames) that exposed it to some rudimentary knife usage.
However, that does not put the blame on videogames themselves, just because they may have been what taught this child about knives(if that is how it happened). The blame still falls squarely on poor parenting.
