I dont know why Kotaku expects a western PS3 price drop to be announced at TGS. Would anyone expect a Japanese price drop to be announced at E3 by Sony or Nintendo? Microsoft maybe since they are American run...but not the other two.
The perfect time to do it is the day before NPD October starts, as the entirety of the boost would be in the Christmas quarter. If Microsoft expected a price cut in Summer and not October, they probably wouldn't have time to react either.
