It is only crucial to your idea, not anyone else's, since it was your assumption.

For any console to be successful in the long term, of course it wants to have games in all genre since it would make the console appealing to the most broad audience. However, when Reggie said "In order to achieve high levels of sales of hardware, we need all genres in the market", somehow it becomes we want to make more RPG, fighter, and FPS games for PS360 owner. The leap of logic is beyond me.

Also, there are 186 millions gamers in the previously generation (PS2: 140+, Xbox: 24, Gamecube: 22) and there are about 103 millions of console sold this gen. Assuming all console this gen is sold to a console owner from last gen, that's at least 73 millions gamer from previous gens for Wii to target. This is already larger than the PS360 user base and does not include any potential customers who never bought a console last gen. Making games appealing to PS360 would be last thing in Nintendo's book for the success of Wii.

You are challenging what I first said and using that currently debated idea as a counter-example.It's up to you to actually challenge the idea if that's what you want to do. By disproving your counterexample my idea is strengthened. Similarly it's how theories work. You pose an idea and try to disprove it. If it cannot be disproved it is therefore proved, even if no evidence exists to actually prove it. It's a circular logic I'll agree, but it's proven time and time again on a variety of fields.

To reiterate; The leap you are talking about is simply the genres that aren't really shown on the wii. Why would he be referring to things that are plentiful on the system like platformers, 3rd person, shooters, mini games, racers? The "leap of logic" is simply deduction watson.

As for your logic, I'm curious to know why you think each console sold went to only one person, and why it's beyond anyone to have switched to to ds or psp furthermore.

@Bob

Sometimes I really wonder about you. I don't think anyone said the world revolved around rpgs and fpses. Reggie was saying that 3rd parties need to step up and deliver, what I believe to be, these genres. Without good installments in these genres it ignores the audiences that are attracted by them. Fire Emblem is a very good example. While not revolutionary, it has strong appeal that make potential buyers think twice about going with a different console.

"and also, according to you what is a gamer?somebody that plays those genres? oh fergadsakes Don't be so narrowminded. Wii is making games that appeal to many kind of gamers not only the otaku-nerd ones. Open your mind a little. Your tastes=/=reality."

I think you are referring to what I say as non-gamers. Please try to be professional. I'm only talking about traditional ideas. A "non-gamer" would be someone who bought the wii for something like wii-fit or something similar. It is only because there is really no other word to describe this demographic that I used non-gamer. I don't know what you would want me to call them. The only inference here is that they are not the type to be drawn by so-called traditional gaming.
