I bought it, the game is ancient and 98% of the game has been done before. Unless the next main Mario game shows something -really- new I won't bother with it.
Nintendos other games share similar problems. Doing the same old stuff new ways. New ways is great, but if you peeled a thousand potatoes each in a new way, you're still peeling potatoes, and it will still become boring very quickly. |
But if you start peeling oranges instead then you'll upset all the people who are happy with potatoes.
I think a franchise should stay true to itself. Mario games are defined by having certain elements and playing in a certain way. If you're tired of that gameplay then you should play a different game.
To me, all the games in a franchise should share core gameplay. If you feel like changing that gameplay to be different then you should make a spinoff or create a new franchise.
