This is only anecdotal, but out of 11 people at work that I know to have current gen consoles, one is PS360 and one is PSWii. One 360 owner (launch model with no problems) says he's waiting for a PS3 price drop and another is considering PS3 after 7 red ring repairs. One of the Wii-only people will likely buy an HD console by the end of the year (probably PS3). Both of the multi-console owners bought or received their second console in the last six months. I would also imagine that multiple console ownership is quite high (and growing) in Japan where Wii seems nearing saturation and 360-only ownership seems unlikely. |
It may be higher... but not much much higher. Trends don't change that fast.
As for Japan... The Wii is not near saturation, is is a poor period for sure, but saturation is when there are not enough gamers left to see healthy sales. The DS is already past saturation point but is surviving based mainly on upgrades... the PS2 is around the saturation point.
I suppose it is feasable to talk about a saturation point at a particular price point, so the Wii is saturated at it's current 25k Yen, but that kind of saturation does not encourage people to jump to another console.
