Yep, you got the point, I barely could imagine Paper Mario game presented in a FF-like cutscene, but still... voice work at least, more animation besides mouth opening\closing? I'm not complaining though, I'm happy with current level of presentation Paper Mario games are able to offer.
//Some old hag nagging: moreover Paper Mario and some Shu Takumi writing (with Alexander O. Smith translation) in Ace Attorney are a couple of examples of relatively recent games that reminds me of old days when game story could be great regardless of any presentation (or with presentation that "fits" should I say?). Those who old enough could remember a story starring a couple of tentacles, or a story told about a clayworld, or baldy, dorky, horny middle-aged man as a main protagonist etc. Those were good writings, good stories, not cliched, not even epic.
